In an effort to reach a fair and equitable salary agreement after eight years with no cost-of-living increase, the teachers of the Diocesan Educators Lay Teachers Association (DELTA) will be holding a demonstration to urge a more just compensation of faculty members in order to foster a successful future for the Worcester Central Catholic school system.

The event will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at the chancery located at 49 Elm St. in Worcester. It will include teachers from Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School, St. Peter Central Catholic Elementary School, St.Peter-Marian Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School and St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School (of Fitchburg), with the support of the National Association of Catholic School Teachers (NACST).

At 5 p.m., DELTA members will meet to potentially authorize a strike vote should there be no significant progress in negotiations.

Since 2010, the central office has offered only four step increases, and has not agreed to a cost-of-living increase during any of those years.

It is DELTA’s hope that the central office will recognize the need for meaningful change and come to a salary agreement that will begin to fairly compensate their teachers, thereby ensuring that the students in the Catholic schools continue to benefit from the compassion and skills of highly qualified, experienced teachers.

  1. This is insane!! They haven’t given cost of living increases. How do they expect to retain good teachers and faculty? Just a shame.
