I have placed an item on the agenda of the Jan. 21 meeting of the Worcester School Committee “to study the report of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau and the Worcester Education Collaborative, ‘The Urgency of Excellence: Considerations for the Next Superintendent of Schools in Worcester, Massachusetts’, and to consider implementation of the recommendations set forth within it.”
With the anticipated selection of a new superintendent of schools this spring, the Worcester Public Schools is well-poised to formulate a strategic plan, as recommended by the report.
Properly conducted, it will activate and energize the many diverse segments of Worcester in a considered study, review and analysis of the school system and its administrative, educational and operational practices.
Similarly, a Worcester Public Schools Governance Institute, recommended by the report, has the potential to keep the key community and government leaders focused on the schools, to the ultimate benefit of the schools, their staffs and their students.
The report, complemented by your excellent editorial in support of it, does much to inform our community as to key options and opportunities now available to the School Committee. Thank you for your continued interest in Worcester education!
